Personal Seclusions: Simple Suggestions On What to Do
Stay in complete silence and alone. Obtain and wear an IN SILENCE badge whenever you go which might cause you to encounter people. If you see someone, lower your eyes and keep walking and/or point at your badge. If you need to communicate with someone, write a note.
For the first day, make it a point to do EVERYTHING much more slowly than you are used to doing it. SLOW DOWN!
Fast or eat lightly. Drink plenty of water.
Take a walk or two each day—spend time alone in nature as much as the weather will allow you. Exercise when you can, in whatever form you like and can do alone. Do lots of deep breathing in the fresh air.
Get up early—at sunrise or earlier.
Meditate at least twice a day, morning and evening, before you eat, if you are eating, for as long as you feel comfortable, or longer than is your usual habit.
Do yoga postures and the Energization Exercises just before meditation.
Disconnect from ALL forms of communication with the outside world!
Read only spiritually uplifting books.
If you are tired, rest or nap as much as you need to.
Chant or listen to chants or any other uplifting music which really inspires you. Inward or very soft chanting might be best, to keep your energy internalized.
If there is a scheduled group meditation near you, go to it as you feel to do so—meditating with others sometimes really helps during a longer seclusion! But stay inward and don’t look at or talk to the people you see. In general, it’s best to be as solitary as possible.
